I decided to participate in this event because...
  • I want to help and motivate students to learn new technologies.
  • this is a good avenue to educate students about science and technology.
  • I want to help enhance the creativity of young students.
  • I want to help prepare young students to accept challenges and responsibilities in life.
  • this motivates the young students to cooperate, compete and share knowledge amongst themselves.
  • this attracts the society to appreciate robotics technology.
  • I want myself and the students to learn more and make friends with people within the scientific and technical field of interest.
  • It's fun and exciting!

"God is good all the time and all the time God is good."

Sir Sieg's one of those hands-on mentors. He's helped the mech group a lot and although there were bad times, he pulled through until the end.

Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering
I decided to participate in this event because...
  • Robotics and mechatronics are my main research interest.
  • working with young people keeps me young and of course, gives me the opportunity to help and nurture them.
  • this is an opportunity to give and receive new ideas.
  • of the fun and excitement!

Why join FIRST?

Joining FIRST is an opportunity for the Philippines to showcase the talents of our high school students in Science and Technology. The first time I was invited by Dr. Elmer Dadios to be one ofthe mentors, I was excited and felt it was a privilege to help them with Labview programming. This activity is a venue for me to encourage high school students to pursue engineering discipline. Also to observe our talented high school students to be able to surpass the technical challenges required to design and build a robot.

Why did you decide to participate in this kind of event?

I want to share the joy of creating robots with students and help them realize the benefits and fun that come along with it.

Meinard C. Aclan

When asked to answer a few questions for this page, Meinard just smiled asked me to write his write-up for him. I guess, in that sense, he's been one of the closest mentors to us and has even proved himself a worthy friend. He's a hands on worker, and although designated to mentor for electronics, took his share of input on mech and programming as well. We know him, he knows us, and if you ask me, I really didn't mind writing his write-up.

Why did you accept this task as a mentor?

"I enjoy what I'm doing whether hands on or just giving advice - It's fun. I also learn more about my students.

Monica Xavier

Ma'am Xavier has been the teacher of all but one of the RoboKids up to this point, so in essence, we know her, and she knows us. Ma'am's a pretty sarcastic character and she's straight to the point and frank, and that's what makes her an effective mentor. She didn't want to answer her questions, so I'm answering them for her - the answers are pretty obvious anyway. She joined for the fun, and because she was obligated to, not with the added guilt, but the sense of responsibility and "motherly" care.

Sir Kitty got his name from his utter love of cats which has gone on since high school. Despite his forboding appearances and his giant stature, we soon found out that he's not such a bad character after all. His talent for impersonation caught us at hello and ever since then we've been tight as spandex. He's a really supportive teacher and mentor and isn't afraid of getting hinds hands dirty. Thanks for the Quickly, sir!
