RP team qualifies for US robotics contest

A team of 32 Filipino students and a robot named “Larry Labuyo” won two awards in a robotics regional competition in Hawaii last week, earning for them a shot at the championship in Atlanta, Georgia.

What projects in robotics are you involved/have been involved in?
I am in the robotics elective of our batch and I've been sent on a contest before.

Why do you want to join the FIRST Robotics Competition?
I am a competitive person and I do like to experience being able to compete and learn with foreigners as well as work with my friends.

What do you think are the ways that robotics can be applied to our daily living?
People who need limbs can avail of robotic replacements, robotics can also be found in simple machines.

Why do you want to join the FIRST Robotics Competition?
So that I will get to have more opportunities through contacts and scholarships that may be offered to all of us.

What do you think are the ways that robotics can be applied to our daily living?
Robotics can be seen everywhere. Even the simple clock is an application of robotics.

It is a new opportunity for me. I am willing to do my best for this.

What do you think are the ways that robotics can be applied to our daily living?
Robotics is a huge potential in our lifestyles. Application to bio-mechanical limb/body part replacements, to exploration in hazardous environments and to archiving data.

Why do you want to join the FIRST Robotics Competition?
I like electronics gadgets, machines and robots I want to create a power suit someday. It is also a great opportunity to broaden my horizons in preparation for college.

What do you think are the ways that robotics can be applied to our daily living?
Handicapped people can be helped by robotic advancements. Dangerous jobs may also be done by robots in place of humans.

Why do you want to join the FIRST Robotics Competition?
I want to learn more things about technology. I want to know how things work especially normal things around me. I want to apply what I have learned in Tech Prep and Tech Skills. It's cool to make a robot.

What do you think are the ways that robotics can be applied to our daily living?
Robots are able to do tasks that humans do and they do not become tired. They do not think for themselves since they are programmed by humans and it can do what you want them to do by programming them.
